People love success.

It’s often seen as a mix of wealth, career, education, and fame. But here’s the thing—those first four often come together, and yet they rarely bring true happiness. In fact, they often work against it.

True happiness is simpler. It’s:
1️⃣ When you don’t want anything more.

2️⃣ When you feel fully present in the moment, just being yourself or spending time with loved ones.

3️⃣ When the pressures of success don’t steal your peace of mind.

In my own journey, I’ve learned that success without happiness is incomplete. It’s not about choosing one over the other—it’s about finding balance. True success, I believe, is achieving the first four without letting them take away your joy in the now.

What does true happiness mean to you?

1. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman on ChatGPT Pro Losses

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman revealed that the company is currently losing money on its $200-per-month ChatGPT Pro plan due to higher-than-expected usage. Despite setting the price with the intention of making a profit, the demand and usage have surpassed expectations, leading to losses for the company.

Key Points:

  • ChatGPT Pro offers an upgraded version of OpenAI's AI models, including o1 pro mode and access to various tools, like Sora video generator.
  • The $200/month price point was not rigorously tested and was chosen based on informal trials.
  • OpenAI continues to face significant losses, despite raising around $20 billion since its inception, with estimated daily costs of $700,000 for ChatGPT.

Why It Matters: OpenAI's challenges highlight the unpredictable nature of AI pricing, as well as the heavy infrastructure costs involved in maintaining such advanced technology. With the company focusing on profitability, OpenAI may adjust its pricing models, including exploring usage-based pricing and potentially raising subscription fees to meet its revenue goals.

Altman’s transparency in sharing the company’s financial struggles offers a rare glimpse into the challenges of monetizing cutting-edge AI technology.

2. Microsoft's $80B AI Infrastructure Investment

Microsoft is setting a new benchmark in AI by committing $80 billion to its AI infrastructure over the next few years, with over half of the funds dedicated to the United States. This massive investment will support the construction of AI-powered datacenters for training and deploying AI models globally, strengthening America’s position as a leader in the AI space.

Key Points:

  • Microsoft’s $80 billion investment is aimed at expanding AI data centers for model training and cloud applications.
  • Over half of the investment will be concentrated in the U.S., reinforcing its economic position.
  • The initiative emphasizes public-private partnerships to drive AI innovation and deployment.

Why It Matters: This investment underscores Microsoft's commitment to advancing AI technologies and infrastructure, positioning the U.S. as a dominant player in the global AI race. It signals a long-term vision for AI's role in the economy, from research and development to product deployment, boosting innovation across industries.

3. Meta Ends AI-Powered Instagram and Facebook Profiles

Meta has announced that it is removing AI-generated profiles on Facebook and Instagram after users rediscovered and interacted with them. These profiles, introduced in September 2023, were initially part of a test but were mostly shut down by mid-2024.

Key Points:

  • The profiles, such as "Liv," a Black queer mom, and "Carter," a relationship coach, were designed to interact with users, offering AI-generated content and conversations.
  • The profiles faced backlash after some users uncovered awkward revelations. For example, Liv's creator team included no Black people, despite her identity as a "proud Black queer momma."
  • Meta's spokesperson clarified that the profiles were part of an experiment, managed by humans, and removed to fix a bug preventing users from blocking the AI accounts.

Why It Matters: Meta’s removal of these profiles reflects growing concerns about AI ethics and the unintended consequences of creating virtual characters that may inadvertently amplify issues like bias. While Meta still allows users to create their own AI chatbots, the company’s handling of these profiles raises questions about accountability and moderation, especially as AI becomes increasingly integrated into social platforms.
